The Hay Paddock Opens New Cellar Door Tasting Room
To Showcase Artisan Wines

Waiheke Island’s Hay Paddock Vineyard, specialist producers of award winning syrahs, opened a cellar door tasting room at their Onetangi Valley, Waiheke Island property on 2nd January and have joined Obsidian and Miro vineyards to create the Onetangi Vineyards Trophy Trail. Visitors are able to experience a 'vertical tasting' of the company's top labels while looking out over the vine-covered valley. The vertical tasting of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Hay Paddock Syrahs is accompanied by a unique "Aroma Challenge" Competition which helps customers identify the key aromas in Syrah - with an opportunity to win a weekly prize of a boxed, hand-signed Magnum of the trophy winning wine from 2006. The competition is already being rated by tour operators as one of the top wine experiences on the Island of Wine.
The Hay Paddock, recent winners of the Trophy for Best Shiraz/Syrah at the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition, and judged Best In Class at the London IWSC, is a member of The Specialist Winegrowers of New Zealand, an elite export group of artisan winemakers that includes Wooing Tree Pinot Noir, Fairbourne Estate Sauvignon Blanc, Number 1 Family Methode Traditionelle, Vinoptima Gewurtztraminer and Destiny Bay’s Bordeaux Blends.
“Our cellar door provides a unique showcase for New Zealand’s specialist producers, in one of the country’s most beautiful settings,” says Jules Silk, the Hay Paddock Cellar Door Manager. “The majority of Waiheke Island’s 800,000 plus visitors come in the summer months and we are planning to be open from October to May each year. We will be helping to expand the attraction of the Onetangi Valley as a wine tourism destination and are excited by the developments being planned in the valley.”
